1. Setup as Portable App

This section explains how to update MobaXterm as a portable app which will not require traditional installation.

  1. Make a backup of the current folder containing your portable edition.

  2. Go here for the latest release.

  3. Log on to the site.

    1. Get your license key

    2. Download the latest release

  4. Extract the .zip file

  5. Run the installer which will allow you to create a Portable Edition zip file.

  6. Unzip the Portable Edition zip file and place the folder on a file share.

  7. Copy the original MobaXterm.ini (which contains the session definitions) to the unzipped directory.

  8. Now run MobaXterm.exe from that folder.

2. Issues

2.1. Portable Version Looses Sessions

  • The portable version should not read the ini file from: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\MobaXterm\MobaXterm.ini

  • If you need to specify the location of the ini, create a .bat file with content similar to the following:

    Edit the path 
    "\\p-ubuntu-norco\Stuff\Appz\RemoteDesktop Software\MobaXterm\MobaXterm_Pro_Portable\MobaXterm.exe" -i "\\p-ubuntu-NORCO\Stuff\Appz\RemoteDesktop Software\MobaXterm\MobaXterm_Pro_Portable\MobaXterm.ini"
